NHS TREATMENT AND CHARGES

The Richmond & Twickenham Primary Care Trust (PCT) is in charge of arranging NHS dental services in the area. These services include urgent treatment, out-of-hours care and emergencies.

Any treatments that your dentist feels you need to keep your teeth, gums and mouth healthy are available on the NHS.

You can always get urgent NHS dental care, or be treated out of normal surgery hours, if necessary. Contact the PCT (office hours only, on 0208 335 1400), or NHS Direct on 0845 4647.

Patient Charges from 1st April 2007

NHS dental charges are as follows:

Band 1 course of treatment - £15.90

- this covers an examination, diagnosis e.g. x-rays, advice on how to prevent future problems, and a scale and polish if needed. Urgent treatment, when you need to see a dentist immediately, also costs £15.90

Band 2 course of treatment - £43.60

- this covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, or extractions.

Band 3 course of treatment - £194.00

- this covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures or bridges.

These are the only dental charges your dentist should ask you to pay when you are having NHS treatment.

You may also choose to have some treatment provided privately as an alternative to NHS treatment. We are happy to discuss these options with you.

PLEASE NOTE: It may be necessary to amend your treatment plan and therefore the costs may change. If this happens, the dentist will advise you and ask you how you wish to proceed. Treatment may be withheld if payment is not made as specified.

Term of payment: By card or by cheque with a current banker’s card.
